Tom and Joanne Glessar of Pensacola contracted Compass Solar Energy last year to outfit their residence in the North Hill area of Pensacola with 5170 watts of solar electric power. After seeing the difference it made on their monthly energy expense, they decided to have Compass install 5170 watts on their beach home at Pensacola Beach. Their rebate from Gulf Power combined with the 30% Federal Tax Credit eliminated 2/3 of the total cost to install, and they are already seeing the difference on their utility bills for the beach house.

Gulf Power awards first “Solar for Schools” program to Compass Solar Energy
The first installment of Gulf Power’s “Solar for Schools” program has been awarded to Compass Solar Energy of Pensacola. The solar installation will be for Washington Holmes Technical Center in Chipley, Florida. The Solar Electric (Photovoltaic) system will be used as an educational tool for students, as well as an offset for the power needs of the school.
The system will consist of a custom made ground rack where the 48 solar panels, 220 watts output per panel. The solar panels used will be manufactured by Mage Solar, with the two Sunnyboy 5,000 watt inverters manufactured by SMA Solar Technology. It will be tied to the Gulf Power grid, equipped with real time monitoring capability, and serve as an excellent tool to educate students about the environmental and financial benefits of using solar power.
Once this installation is complete, Gulf Power plans to equip other schools with similar systems for educational use and energy offset.
